View Full Version : Using Maps in FG

From what I can tell so far, I need to create a player version of the map/dungeon and then to break it up into smaller sections/rooms.

Is there anyone out there that simply builds the map with titles (tokens) as the players explore? I've seen many character tokens but no map tile tokens.
Would such an idea work in FG?

Thanks

Foen created a multi-layer image support extension that enabled tile based play (so as to overcome tile stacking/movement issues). As a PoC it was successful however the solution is not 100% ready and requires some changes to FGII's engine and ruleset APIs before further progress can be made.

More info here (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11966&highlight=layers+maps).

ok thanks.

As an alternative, I guess I could use some kind of map tool like Mappy and simply export the image to the images folder on the fly. Not sure how complex this would be but it might work out.

You can use a variety of different graphics/art/illustration or cartopgraphy tools to produce your maps. Its just a case of preference and budget.

I use Photoshop but many other community members use other apps like, GiMP, Paint.NET, Paint, Campaign Cartographer 3, Dundjinni, Fractal Mapper and Corel Paint just to name a few.

FGII will support JPG and PNG image types so as long as your app can output in either of these formats your good to go.

Actually, all I really need is the ability to draw thick straight lines in different colors. I'm rather surprised that there is only a free hand pen available.

You can draw straight lines by holding down the shift key. (See the manual (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/userguide35E/gm_images.xcp).) You can't change colours, as far as I know, though.
