When I copy and paste text it creates paragraph for each line

When I copy and paste text it creates paragraph space between each line. So, if i create a dialog box it only captures a single line. SO, I have to click, backspace, click, backsspace, click, backspace... to get rid of the empty spaces, and form one paragraph I can then wrap a dialog box around. Is there any easier way of doing this? I am copying striaght from a pdf and using ctrl-v to past into story. Please help if you can.
