I just noticed the "Show NPC" check button on the combat tracker. What does that do?

I can't speak for every ruleset out there but in the 4E ruleset the Hide/Show NPC button hides or reveals all NPC entries in the CT for all clients.

Any NPC tokens placed on a map which corresponds (link) to the CT NPC entries will also be shown or hidden respectively. By default when you add an encounter to the CT, all NPCs are hidden until revealed by clicking the Hide/Show NPC button.

In effect, used with map masks you can deploy an encounter and corresponding NPCs to your maps and then in a single click reveal them all to your players.
