How can my players NPC someone elses character?

I want to be able to allow everyone access to all characters or allow someone access to a specific character...what ever will be easier. Is this possible without actually having to recreate a copy manually for the player who wants to control it for the night?

Also is there a way to make the grid darker or change the color of it. Our group has experienced problems with some maps. Dark colored maps make seeing the grid very difficult. The colors seem to melt together and makes movement a challenge.

I've used notebook to make a few minor changes but I'm not very experienced with it ...but I'm willing to try anything.

if its an actual character and not a personality, you can clear the owner of that character and have someone select it again
