Ok, i had yet to see the hex based graph in action, so tonight i just thru together (30min) of stuff to see what it would look like in FG.

i guess this could be used to do internet games...the characters sheet could be the power/weapon/systems tracker...but i think you would have to do images for the ships ssd.

I think a map based product (such as Battlegrounds) might be better for doing miniature rules such as SFB. Fantasy Grounds is more geared around the character sheet and is, I think, a lot better for roleplaying. Right tool for the job and all that, which is great if you're not on a budget. ;)

Those ships look like they'e from FASA's tactical combat simulator rather than SFB, btw.
Nice background.

Looks great Grimm.

I'll be keeping an eye out for the direction you might take this.

I agree with Valarian, I'd think another VTT would probably work better for SFB which is based around the map. Aside from Battlegrounds, MapTool is another free VTT that revolves around the map and it has better map support for this type of thing over FG in that you could expand the map infinitely with tiles - something your can't do with map images in FG.

I have played SFB via FG. We did the SSD's and Energy Allocation forms as images, and made some number tokens to use for filling out the EAF's. We first tried just writing numbers with the draw function but my penmanship is terrible with a pen, never mind a mouse. :) A character sheet for the EAF would be better, albeit with a lot more work.

My graphics were a lot less sophisticated, just a black map and scans of my old counters from the 1980's. And it was a lot slower than a face-to face game. But it was still fun.

However, my next foray into SFB over the net will probably involve Zun-Tzu (https://www.zuntzu.com/files.htm). It (or some of the other options others have mentioned) seem to be a better fit.

I can vouch for ZunTzu, its an excellent piece of software for playing boardgame/wargames over the net with friends.

I recently adopted ZunTzu as one of my groups were keen to play a game of the 1st Edition D&D Dragonlance wargame Dragons of Glory (DL11). The conversion only took me a couple of hours as ZunTzu truly makes it very easy to setup games.

Here's a couple of screenshots.
