EDIT : The newest version is 1.44 :
Minor change in the hd'scripting. You can now write in "hd" text : 3+2 (20-22hp)
Monsters Module : humanoids - giants - demons

VERSION 1.44
OSRIC.zip (https://pagesperso-orange.fr/moonpiesminiatures/osric/OSRIC.zip)

DESCRIPTION AND MANUAL (PDF)
MANUAL.pdf (https://pagesperso-orange.fr/moonpiesminiatures/osric/osricruleset.pdf)

Spells.mod (https://pagesperso-orange.fr/moonpiesminiatures/osric/OSRIC-Spells.mod)

If you test it, please give some feedback. I'm not a programmer and the ruleset was created organically (reminds me of an old manual for dungeon master ! :D)

Obe,

It's an OGL fantasy system that's basically compatible with 1st edition AD&D. Here's a link (https://www.knights-n-knaves.com/osric/) to their website.

Wiki description updated.

rule of three
February 12th, 2010, 22:30
New update will make a more clear distinction between base to hit score and modifiers for those who prefer to use tables :

So attacks may appear as :
"5 needed to hit AC 0 and the character score : " " 10"

or
"7 needed to hit AC 0 and the character score : " 10+2""

Version 1.1

Major Update (You can in fact name it version 2 !)

VERSION 1.1
OSRIC.zip (https://pagesperso-orange.fr/moonpiesminiatures/osric/OSRIC.zip)

DESCRIPTION AND MANUAL (PDF)
MANUAL.pdf (https://pagesperso-orange.fr/moonpiesminiatures/osric/osricruleset.pdf)

MODULES ( work in progress ) : spells will be finish soon, not monsters
monsters.mod (https://pagesperso-orange.fr/moonpiesminiatures/osric/osric-monsters.mod)
Spells.mod (https://pagesperso-orange.fr/moonpiesminiatures/osric/osric-Spells.mod)

This version corrects bugs signaled but not the "destry weapon bug" ! I repeat : do not try to destry weapons on character's sheet, it will crash or block FGII.

You can now write monster's attack as a simple : Claw (1d8)
(and not claw +0 (1d8) which was a legacy of the d20ruleset.

I've also increase the flexibility of the text's attacks : the player rolls dice, add his bonus and you only have to compare with your table (or with the score displayed by FG :) )

All of this is described in the pdf ( or to be more precise, I've try to explain how to use them, english is not my first langage as you can imagine :) )

Feel free to give advices and bugs notices (some new functionnalities were previous demands from some peoples)

GM's preferences are now functionnal ! Sorry for the delay.
I've added new preferences : now with not so many modifications, this ruleset can be used with a great numbers of retroclones :
- select the good gm's preferences
- modify as you want the scripts oldschool***.lua

Correction of an error in the small combat sheet in main page.
Correction of the blinking effect when GM and a player view the same character sheet mainpage

You can now write "2 +1 sword" for npc's attacks. Before upate, you can only use 2 sword or +1 sword for example.

New GM's preferences :
- house rules : kg for encumbrance's calculation
- always show initial targeting AC even when selecting only show AC0
- resolve attacks
- house rules :multiple options for repeating 20s
- house rules : resolve success of d100 skills

Apparently, the links to the Monsters is:
https://pagesperso-orange.fr/moonpiesminiatures/osric/OSRIC-monsters.mod

And to the Spells is:
https://pagesperso-orange.fr/moonpiesminiatures/osric/OSRIC-Spells.mod

It seems that the one included in the main OSRIC download is not the latest...

EDIT: Nor is this the latest. I have an old copy I keep digging up of the modules, but not sure why they aren't in the newer builders. The one I have has all the spells as noted but is a smaller file size. I think maybe there are corrupted characters or something in the newer modules...

Not sure to understand your problem.
I've tested mine (FGII 2.8, OSRIC 1.44 with the up to date modules), no problem for me.

We are using OSRIC 1.43 ( that was the most recent available at the time ). We had other problems immediately after upgrading to 2.8, but we have most of them worked out.

The above message is recorded in the console.log file when I start FG2 with the -n command line option. It usually happens just after connecting to the server.

It's just a warning message for files requested by the client which were not available on the host. With the current module implementation, the clients will always request the common.xml file for every module, even though it doesn't contain one.

It's new to 2.8, since 2.8 now tries to document more info in the console.log file.

Couple of bugs I have noticed with the OSRIC ruleset:

Applying modifiers to attack rolls (dragged from Combat tab) results in misfire of AC hit calculation
NPCs dragged directly from NPC list to combat tracker results in script error - works fine if NPC entry opened first, then dragged from there
Tokens for NPC entries do not follow when the NPC is dragged into the combat tracker
Scaling token size in combat tracker with mouse wheel is not very responsive

Thanks for the good work - this ruleset has been great for my AD&D 1st edition game...

Cheers!

* Cure : yes, you have to change HP manually. Or double click, choose "-" and drag to HP.

* Scaling token size in combat tracker with mouse wheel is not very responsive. It's not my fault, I've not touch thaht part of d20 ruleset.

* Tokens for NPC entries do not follow when the NPC is dragged into the combat tracker : maybe an update from FGII engine because I'm 90% sure it was working in the past... ?

* NPCs dragged directly from NPC list to combat tracker results in duplicate CT entry and script error - fine if NPC entry opened first, then dragged from there. Never see that because I always open my NPC first. I will give a look, but I must first try to remember how CT populate function works...

I sorta got this fixed in my ruleset this weekend...took a while since I'm not that familiar with LUA.

In the \OSRIC\Scripts\CombatTracker_Entry_NPC.lua file,
In the Populate function,
add the following line just after the save_spl line:

token.setPrototype(itemdatanode.getChild("token").getValue());

As long as open up the NPC record at least once ( like when you first start the server ), the token will follow the npc when it is added to the combat tracker.

RuleOfThree should probably weight in on this just to make sure I'm not corrupting the database, or possibly give us the correct fix so there is no need to open the NPC record first.

I would like to thank you for your hard work on the OSRIC-Ruleset in the name of my adventure company!

Iam leading a 2nd-Edition AD&D campain with old friends and tons of house rules in the Forgotten Realms setting. This OSRIC-Ruleset make ist possible to play with our old school 2nd Edition. We all love it an dont want to upgrade to 3.5, pathfinder or 4th edition rules since we possess nearly all rules and supplemental guides that were publihes in german language.

Iam still looking forward to the completion of the monster manual, it will make my live as dungeon master much easier (the monsters from osric fit nearly perfect into 2nd-Edition AD&D).

Heya Rule of Three! What could be done to help get this developed and ready for official FG use? I'm a publisher of OSRIC material (got something like 25 modules or so) and I'd love to have a ruleset so that I could get OSRIC adventures here at Fantasy Grounds. I'd love to help if possible and there's always the chance I could finagle other OSRIC fans into helping as well. The Monsters module is 75% done and I'm thinking of updating this ruleset after the new 2.9 DD3 ruleset. I've started a very simple Heroquest 2 ruleset and will update OSRIC next. I will try to finish the module if it can help.

Glad to hear! If you find yourself needing help with data entry or other stuff that just about anyone could do, I'm pretty sure there are those in the OSRIC community that would be glad to help to make things easier for you.

How goes the progress... wondering if you need help at all on the work you are doing. Loving this ruleset so far.

I'm currently working on my Heroquest II ruleset. Monsters module is not a priority because, as many people here, I play Ad&d with this ruleset, not OSRIC per see. Updating OSRIC Ruleset to the new 2.9 DD3.5 will be a great task but I've work hard on it for HQ2.

I've downloaded the ruleset OSRIC.ZIP file and I'm not sure on where to place it.

If someone with a little knowlegde of the osric ruleset could give me a push in the right direction - you'd have my thanks.

You just need to extract the zip file to the fantasy grounds working directory under ruleset directory. I am under windows 7 so my tree is c:/user/mediaicon/appdata/roaming/fantasy grounds ii/ruleset/OSRIC/

Depends. You could also open the folder in your start menu to get to the working directory. (Application Data Icon)

Hope this was of some help.

I had to create the ruleset sub-directory. I know I created it in the correct location (by using the Application Data Folder Icon). Then I un-zipped the OSRIC.zip into that sub-directory. I now have 1 folder (OSRIC) and 3 files (OSRIC-monsters.mod, OSRIC-Spells.mod and osricruleset.pdf within the rulset sub-directory.

When I started FG2 it does not give me the option for the OSRIC game, only 3.5 & 4

Still does not work.

I have Windows 7-64 and a headache. Any further help would be appriceated.

Ok..., idiot here. Vanna White - give me an S

very important rule: Check your spelling. The sub-directory is "rulesets" not ruleset.

Please commence beating me with a stick.

The .mod files should go in the modules directory.

Maybe a way to disable encumbrance from coins. Easy enough to work around, so low priority.

Yes, I'm thinking about different levels of automatizations. When I started this ruleset, options were not a feature of the DD3.5 one. House rules were the reason I've tried to make that this ruleset can be easily modified via the "oldschool_references.lua" files.

I've finish the Heroquest 2 ruleset (I've just to delete all the "print something" lines added to debug the scripts, and upload it). I will rework on modules soon.

A couple very minor things that certainly could not be considered features.

1. The tab sequence in the NPC window is a little choppy - it would be great to be able to tab through the fields in order from top to bottom. Right now, it skips a little and I think dead ends in a couple places.
2. Dragging combats (crossed-swords button, top right of table) to the combat tracker gives an error - it creates the entry in the 'Groups' tab with a single empty NPC field. Not an essential feature, but I would use it if it worked.

Other features I would like to see - these are probably major projects and might be beyond the scope of this ruleset:

1. Group initiative (is this already possible?) as in 1st edition
2. Player combat tracker.
3. Double-click to roll.
4. Auto-number NPCs when dropped in the tracker.
5. Tokens disappear from the map when NPCs are deleted from the tracker.

I know those last 5 features might not be possible, but I included them anyway... Thank you for your excellent work!

Rule of Three, is there a setting to prevent changes made to the character sheet using the mouse wheel? It's extremely annoying having to QC the skills tab each time we look at it or use it.

BTW, the OSRIC ruleset is awesome! Even with the mouse wheel hassle, the skills tab is very useful, allowing us to use whatever skill system we want. I can't think of another ruleset that allows that; very intelligent design!

Where did you download the ruleset from? I've just downloaded the V1.44 Osric.pak from the "Library" link at the top of this page and it works fine for me.

One of the guys in my group had a similar problem recently. He had downloaded v1.42, so there must be an older version out there somewhere. The original post in this thread has the correct version. That worked for us.

Can't wait for the update! :)

All I can think of is that you have another version somewhere on your computer that is being picked up. When you create a new campaign and select "Osric" do you see "Release: 1.44" in the description box? The following is what I see:

I'm having a problem understanding the encumbrance that seems to be automated.

I believe the OSRIC rules have the encumbrance levels of 35#, 70#, 105# and 150 (unencumbered, light, medium and heavy load).

I understand that increasing or decreasing your strength automatically adjusts values that are shown on the inventory tab.

At a strength score of 8, should I be seeing 35# 70# 105# 150# ?

Thanks,

Rook

I recalled something about an "encumbrance fix" earlier in the thread, but this post is over a year old - don't know if it was ever integrated into the ruleset so you might give it a try.

Complete noob here taking my baby steps...

If I use Manage Characters on this ruleset to create a new character, I get the following:

Script Error: [string "charsheet_main:reset_button"]:1: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "charsheet_main:strength"]:1: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "scripts/template_linkednumber.lua"]:64: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "scripts/template_modifiernumber.lua"]:60: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "scripts/stringcontrolmenu.lua"]:40: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "scripts/template_linkednumber.lua"]:64: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "scripts/charsheet_setweapon.lua"]:202: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "scripts/stringcontrolmenu.lua"]:40: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "charsheet_main:damagedice"]:1: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "charsheet_main:damagebonus"]:1: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "scripts/template_basictohitscore.lua"]:182: attempt to index a nil value
Script Error: [string "scripts/template_tohitscore.lua"]:107: attempt to index a nil value

If I ignore the errors and try to use the sheet to create the character, it doesn't save, but there's a blank character sheet in the Character Selection window.

Thinking there might be more than one way to skin a manticore, I created a new campaign and had no trouble creating the character there. But there doesn't seem to be any way to export it from that campaign so I can pass it to the GM for his game. Am I missing something?

The Export function is not incorporated in this (old) ruleset. You can copy paste your db caracter to your DM, that's the only way.
And no, I've not updated the ruleset with the encumbrance fix. But, you can :)

Player to player whisper.

Nothing essential.

Hiya!

I know this is three years old...but with FGII "breaking" so many of my rulesets...I figured I may as well use this original one to see if there will be an update to the OSRIC Ruleset so that it's fully compliant with the latest FGII version?

...sits back to listen to the crickets... ;)

Hey pming - there is no Fantasy Grounds II. The numbering got dropped several years ago when version 3 came out... :)
If you do redo any of your rulesets building them on CoreRPG as layered rulesets and it cuts down on a lot of work - but they still need to be maintained as the engine and CoreRPG evolve...
