View Full Version : Scraped modules and loading for players

So I finished scraping and parsing several of the books from the compendium for the 4e ruleset.
I now have a handful of .mod files. I mailed them to my players and told them to place them in the
C:\..\Fantasy Grounds II\modules directory
Now initially the modules didn't show up at all, and now they are showing up, but cannot be opened by the players. They books don't stay open. On the host side I have the same files in my modules list with a green check mark in the octagonal field.
Any idea what the problem is? Is there a one time first-load delay for these things?

Did you make them as client modules?

There's an easier way than reparsing!
We're going to turn your common or host module into a client module in 8 easy steps:
1. Make sure Windows Explorer is set to show file extensions.
2. Find the folder with the module in it.
3. Rename the module from filename.mod to filename.zip
4. Unzip the file into a new directory. Open that directory.
5. If you created it as a host module, there will be a file called db.xml. If you created it as a common module, there will be a file called common.xml. Whichever it is, rename it to client.xml.
6. Rezip the contents of the directory back to newfilename.zip.
7. Rename newfilename.zip to newfilename.mod.
8. Send it to your players. Have them delete the old file.

I'm not sure that's easier :) Especially if you have a saved instruction file for the module. You probably want to update the instruction file anyhow, in my experience modules are never actually "done" :)

Hmm, guess that's possible. I've not used the parser since I don't play 4e. I have to type stuff in by hand so in that case changing the name of the xml file is the way to go. But if reparsing is a five-minute job then yeah, that's probably easier.
It's true that reference modules aren't ever really done, though. Which reminds me, I have to created the augmented versions of the monsters for Monster Summoning IV pretty soon... A DM's work is never done! :)
