With most current build I don't see how you enter local mode and there's no "Create and View Local Characters" button. Please help.

If you've got a full license hit the 'Manage Characters' button. Not all rulesets allow local character creation; which one are you using?

When you launch FG, select the 'Manage Characters' button as Spyke suggests (it is the fourth button down on the left hand side of the launcher window). That takes you to a screen where you can either choose a ruleset (top) or select an existing campaign (bottom). You should see Rolemaster Classic listed on the top and any campaign which you have entered listed on the bottom. Select one of those (either the ruleset or the campaign) and then press the Start button on the lower right.

Please note that the RMC ruleset has only limited functionality in Local Mode, and it isn't advised that you create your characters this way - the preferred appraoch is to create the characters while connected to the campaign (either in Host mode, as the GM, or in Client mode, as a player).

Are there plans to change / improve this?

I would say it would be very unlikely. The amount of work for a one time use for most campaigns makes it very unlikely most rulesets builders would ever take the time to make a ruleset so local mode works - if that ruleset makes extenstive use of the database.

*agrees with Griogre*

In the case of the RMC ruleset, there is extensive automation within the character sheet (such as setting skill costs, based on profession) and the FG engine makes this very difficult in Local mode - not least because there isn't a database node at the character sheet level and hence the code that tries to 'look' from one part of the character sheet to another fails.

It may be something that is improved in due course, but it isn't on the current list of things to do.

Agreed. The GURPS ruleset is able to offer local mode only because there's very little automation allowed by the Steve Jackson Games Online Policy. Since the sheet does little more than add up the character points on each page it works OK in local mode, but even then I had to do some sneaky tricks to get the Damage Resistance pop-up box to populate.
