 Ok. I personally like to test things before I buy them, but I was wondering if two people not on the same connection could use the demo version. I tried everything and I was just wondering.

Yes you can. From the downloads page:
Download the demo version of Fantay Grounds II here. The demo contains all the features of the full version with the following restrictions:
* No new campaigns or rulesets can be created. A demonstration campaign is available that can be loaded.
* You can modify the demo campaign but the modifications do not save.
* Characters created in the local character preparation mode are not saved.
* Hosting a game is restricted to two client connections at a time
* Ruleset modifications are not available.
* Customized assets, such as tokens and new images for maps can't be used.
* The demo is not compatible with the retail version of Fantasy Grounds.

The most common difficulty new users have with getting a connection between player and GM is getting the GM's port forwarding correct. The GM must forward port 1802 from his router to the internal IP address of the machine running Fantasy Grounds. The exact details are different for each make of router.
A summary of what's required is covered at https://oberoten.dyndns.org/fgwiki/index.php/Networking.
You could also search these forums for 'port forwarding' or 'connection' for further help.

And if you can't port-forward, like me, you can use Hamachi to connect perfectly with people!

It doesn't hurt to impresize that if you have *any* problems connecting with the demo you will have the same problems with the real versions. Thus you are not wasting you time getting the demo to work, because you are going to do the same things to get the real version to work.
Finally, you do have the option to use a VPN like Hamachi though its another layer of complexity and it's like using a jack hammer to squish a snail.

Indeed Hamachi does add some complexity, but as far as I know, it's foolproof. And it's definitely easier than trying to figure out how to forward your ports. Hamachi installs in 1 minute and then it works -- just connect to the same chatroom and use the Hamachi IP instead of the host PC's IP. Port Forwarding can take a lot more expertise (though ultimately, I think port forwarding is the preferable solution if you're able to do it).
I only emphasize Hamachi because in many places where I live, it is impossible to forward ports, and the Japanese system for delivering internet access is slightly different than the US, so port forwarding is much more complex, making Hamachi the infinitely preferable choice.

I'm not sure if it still works (I havent tried it in ages), but when I tested FG for the first time, I actually opened up two instances of the game on one computer. It let me see the GM and player sides at the same time, without having to get another person. You just have to take it out of full screen mode to make it easier to switch between sessions.
Obviously that doesnt answer network questions, but if you wanted to see simple things worked, it can be a quick and dirty solution.

1. Run the demo.
2. Note your local network IP address from the box on the right hand side.
3. Click Start.
4. Run a second instance of the demo, change your user name so that it's different to the one you used for the host session, and type the IP address you noted into the Host address box, then click Start.

Or as in Xornes demo: localhost as a address.
