View Full Version : Showing DM Rolls

My friend and I just did our first run-through with FG and using the D&D 4E ruleset. This should be a simple question ... how do I show a DM roll, if I choose to? I have it set to not show in the options (because I think the other option is to show *all* DM rolls). But there are times when I do want to show them a roll... especially damage rolls.

So how do I show just a specific roll to the players?

And while I have your ears, how do I show enemies and NPCs in the Players' Combat Trackers? I saw one of the tutorial videos that showed you could set it to display the enemies in the tracker (and it showed their general health, not specific Hit Points). So how do I set that?

Thanks!

Hold down CTRL while throwing the dice and it will be a revealed roll.

Or use /die reveal and /die hide

In the tracker next to every enemy there's a lil' eye icon, click on that to reveal that enemy to your players in the combat tracker.

Also, you can drop the damage rolls on the combat tracker entries or on the PC icons in the upper left. The damage will be automatically applied, and at minimum the player will be notified (maybe all clients, but don't remember exactly).

You can drop any roll from the chat window onto a PC icon on the upper left (or the combat tracker). If it's an attack roll, it will compare to the appropriate defense. If it's a damage roll, it will apply damage. If it's an effect, it will apply the effect. Otherwise, it will just report the number to the client (only on PC icon).

The GM rolls can be hidden or shown by using the option in the options dialog of using the /die hide and /die reveal commands in the chat entry window. Another approach is to turn on all GM rolls, then use TheBox to make any hidden rolls you want to make.

I'm not sure if the CTRL key will reveal in the ruleset, unless it is an override built into FG.

As Mask pointed out, the little eye symbol next to the icon field controls the visibility of the NPCs in the PC tracker. When in doubt, mouse over any checkboxes, since they usually have tooltips. Or just try it out.

Hope that helps a bit.

Just wanted to thank Mask_of_winter for that little tidbit. It was not at all clear to me that the eye icon was only intended to affect the CT which led to me tipping my hand to my players last night when I thought I'd set up a nice little ambush for them (because I thought the tokens would be invisible on the map until I clicked their little eye icons in the CT).

The next version will tie the token visibility to the CT visibility. Also, there will be a button to show/hide all NPCs. Very handy for ambushes.

Moon, I am setting aside a day's annual leave so that I will have time to read through the readme for JPG v2.0!
