Tonight my group (FINALLY) got back together and started to play a new game. After getting torked at WOTC's PDF policy, we opted to switch over to GURPS to try something brand new.

As luck would have it I became the GM, simply because I had one more game session then everyone else (Thanks to Spyke at FUMCon :) ). And if I'm game master, you know what that means: Order of the Stick Style Tokens!

This game session was less of a 'real' session, and more of a 'here's how the game mechanics work' session. So, things are a lil messy and the adventure was simple. I was still learning things myself, so I wasn't using the combat tracker correctly.

In any case, I took some screen shots to show things off.

The Assault Begins (https://mrh.boxofgeeks.net/Gurps/GurpsWWI-2.JPG) - The PC's job was to assault and capture a farmhouse. It started with a bang as my brothers group chucked three grenades at two bad guys. Talk about overkill.

Moving on Up (https://mrh.boxofgeeks.net/Gurps/GurpsWWI-3.JPG) - My brothers guys moved up and were startled by a enemy soldier coming around the corner. This was when they were introduced to critical failures as his weapon jammed. Luckily one of his squadmates was on the ball and took out the enemy.

Intermission Time (https://mrh.boxofgeeks.net/Gurps/GurpsWWI-4.JPG) - One of the guys disconned unexpectedly so we got a short break. Bonus points to anyone who gets the reference :)

The Aftermath (https://mrh.boxofgeeks.net/Gurps/GurpsWWI-5.JPG) - The PC's managed to take out all 12 enemy soldiers. Only one of their own was seriously injured (Well, he died but I let him 'live' so that the medic could learn how to do first aid stuff.

I definitely bit off more then I could chew by throwing in so many bad guys, but it was worth it to show the guys how to play. This ruleset Skype made is very nice, well done :)

And lastly...the Heroes:

Thanks :) Making the tokens for these were fun. It's a lot easier then making D&D style tokens, cause you only have one race (humans), and they're all rather similar in appearance. All I had to do was to get a image fo the weapons, then 'draw over' them with inkscape and viola. All set to make custom characters.

The NPC's don't have much customization because of lack of time though :b

Here's the weapons:

This is awesome. And I LOVE the tokens, especially the croaked Nazis. I've got to get the GURPS WWII books...never read them before. Please keep posting about this game. Love to hear some of what you guys do outside of combat.

Yeah, but they're not 'linked' to other things I believe. IE, dragging a token from the combat tracker to the shortcut bar, then up to a map doesn't link it to the character (just tested it and it didn't work for me).

I just put the tokens down there for quick things. For example, the dead characters (doesn't matter who they're linked too) and for when the characters are just moving through a non combat situation.

Our game's been delayed by a week due to work, but I hope to have something up again on our next session:)

Incidentally, Mr_H, I've just been reading the GURPS Mass Combat (https://e23.sjgames.com/item.html?id=SJG37-0131) supplement today. I don't know whether you've got this, but it looks like it would be a good fit for your campaign, to round out the battles raging around your PCs' squad.

Today our gallant heroes parachuted into France as Pathfinders for the 82nd Airborne. For those familiar with WWII, Pathfinders were the first into France during the great invasion. They were supposed to place down beacons and lights to help with the airborne landings....obviously that didn't work very well.

We're taking certain liberties with the 'real way' WWII happened, all in the name of fun (it's not as fun if the PC's are locked into one thing and can't experience the joy of being in some of the bigger battles or events we all know about).

The Briefing (https://mrh.boxofgeeks.net/Gurps/GurpsWWII-061109a.jpg) - Here the players are learning of their assignment. Parachute in, setup a beacon to bring in the rest of their regiment (the fictional 510th), and then help out with an assault on a nearby town. Tonight's mission focused on the first part, setting up the beacon.

Locating the Beacon (https://mrh.boxofgeeks.net/Gurps/GurpsWWII-061109b.jpg) - Sadly, during their flight, a German AA Gun hit their plane, causing one of their party (Pvt Redcoat) to be sucked out of the plane, along with the beacon. Redcoat was killed in the process and the beacon landed elsewhere. The PC's had to make find it. Which they did, in the possession of a German patrol whom had stumbled upon it.

Locating the Beacon 2 (https://mrh.boxofgeeks.net/Gurps/GurpsWWII-061109c.jpg) - A brief firefight ensued and in the end the PC's were victorious. They hid the enemy bodies and the car, and continued along the way.

They eventually met some French Resistance fighters who were on their way to their own target. They agreed to lead the PC's to the drop zone so they could setup the Beacon. Of course, as all good stories go, someone else got to the drop zone first.

Landing Zone Battle 1 (https://mrh.boxofgeeks.net/Gurps/GurpsWWII-061109d.jpg) - Two mobile anti aircraft guns and 10 german soldiers had moved into the landing zone, 'just by chance'. The PC's and their French Resistance allies performed a sneak attack in order to clear out the area.

Landing Zone Battle 2 (https://mrh.boxofgeeks.net/Gurps/GurpsWWII-061109e.jpg) - The PC's won again, but this time there were casualties. One Frenchie was hit in the head by a perfect shot from a German (rolled three 1s). Another was ripped apart when the Germans fired an AA gun into their position. As his buddies cleared out the Germans, the Medic clambered into one of the AA Guns and fired on the other, disabling it and allowing the remaining Frenchman to survive the onslaught.

That was all we had time for tonight. More coming in the future.

One thing I still need to work on (other then smoothing out how combats run), is dealing with the Medic. Technically he can't use weapons or fight back (although he justified using the AA gun as 'attacking equipment'). In this situation, and a couple future ones, I gave him control of the French Resistance fighters. That eased my work load, and gave him the chance to get involved in the fight as well.

You're welcome. Love to share the game with others, and show off the ruleset people made for other people to use :)

An exchange from the game that I forgot to post :)

Matt : What war are we playing? World War One?

Jon: World War 1.5.

Jay: Yeah, that’s the patched war.

Matt: Oh! That’s where they fixed the Italian ally issue, right?

Jay: Yup!

Matt: I bet Hitler’s bummed he didn’t live to see the patch that fixed the ‘Don’t Invade Russia in Winter’ strategy glitch.

This is one of the coolest looking games I've seen on FG - great stuff and well done!
