So... I just purchased the lite version, trying to create a character in local to get used to the software and I am getting a blank screen. The only other post I could find using search was from March. My friend who is playing on the demo version has no problems. Is there something I'm doing wrong here?

You usually need to connect to a GM session to create a character. This post explains it a bit further:

Is there an open game or host I can connect to in order to tinker with it?

There's not an official server running for this purpose, I'm afraid, but you should be able to hook up with someone fairly quickly to try things out. Remember to let people know the game system or genre you're interested in and your timezone.

In the meantime, you can try things out by installing the demo and running both a host and a player session on the same computer.

Or, downoad the d20 ruleset or my GURPS ruleset. They will both allow you to develop characters locally using the Lite version.

Download and install the d20 ruleset in the download section of this website: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/downloads/

That will allow you to mess around making local d20 characters. It's one of of the few PAK rulesets available. PAK rulesets can allow lite versions of FG to make local characters (though they don't have to).

Edit: Out typed by Spyke! :p ;)
