Howdy :D

So I am bran new to FG and am also a returning D&D player, I previously played 3E before I found out high school and its encompassing activities afforded me little time and even less money. But hurrah! I have been more or less enticed back to the RPG I once loved, unfortuanetly time has moved forward and I have been left uninformed and outdated do to my extended foray into the world of debt and debauchery. I have come back with the intention of taking part in what seems to be a 3.5E game of D&D, we would be playing via the FG2 clients (yea yea, duh, I know...). However after watching the tutorial videos I have been both amazed and confused, to be completely honest I don't think I could have dreamt up a better system (at the very least from the DMing perspective). I am jumping at the chance to delve into the inner workings of FG2 and familiarize myself with the system so as to help smooth any rough edges when the group gets off the ground, but before I do I was hoping to get some insight from the players here.

My first question is reguarding the discounts that are given to those who by multiple license keys, I think we're going to be looking at roughly 10 players. Are the discounts all set per key (ei. Buy 3 get x.xx$ off ea.) or do they scale based on how many you get (ei. Buy 1 get 1.00$ off, Buy 5 get 7.50$ off)? Is it % based or set, does it change from DM vs Player versions, and does it increase with more purchases is what I'm asking in a nutshell.

Next is about the resources that are included in the clients, does it come with specific rulesets included? I seem to have read that D20 has been removed and that a 3.5E ruleset and FG foundation has been included instead? What exactly does that entail? Is that like resources like the PHB or DMG? Or is it simply refering to the way the system itself operates?

As for resources being ADDED after the fact, I have read about people adding "Mods" that have information reguarding rules/spells/monsters/etc and was wondering where you would find this type of addition? I have seen Oberoten's wiki links however when I tried them they didn't work (not sure if they are down/maintenance/or just removed).

Lastly (for now haha :p ), I was wondering if there is a big learning curve for a 3E player to get past when it comes to the 3.5E rules. Am I basically learning a new system or is it more or less the same with specific alterations for balance/additions?

Any random advice is always helpful as well (such as common pitfalls new players find with FG that aren't covered in the intro videos) so as to help myself and those joining me avoid them. Also with the 3.5E rules stuff I don't really need specifics if you don't feel like typing them out, I'm not too worried about looking silly (its unavoidable for me anyways :o ) and there are bran new D&D players joining us anyways. Mostly I'm just looking for a headsup.

So anyways, thats it for the moment, looking forward to hearing and potentially playing with some/all of you!~ ;)

:pirate: <--- Haha, sorry had to use it since its the first time I've seen it :D

I'm also new to FGII but I can try to pass on what I've learned so far. No promises on it being true or not :)

Discounts -
Easy way to tell. Go into the store and place what you want into the shopping cart. If you buy more then one item it will show you the discount.

Rulesets -
Comes with a generic 3.5 ruleset. In the download section of FG, https://www.fantasygrounds.com/downloads/ , you can download the d20 ruleset. Another place you can try is here https://fantasygrounds.wikia.com/wiki/Ruleset_list

Books/Mods -
Most of the rulesets will require you to have the 'offical' game books for the detailed information. These books are like the PHB, MM, DM, etc. Anything that requires a license

There are mods out there for adventures. A example a place is https://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/RPGA_Group/ which deals with RPGA FGII online players. Mostly D&D 4.0

3.0 to 3.5 learning curve -
Been a long time for me but I don't remember it being that big of a jump. Was more of a "trying to fix what was wrong" system.

Now, 4.0 D&D is almost a completely different game system. While the 4.0 system is pretty easy to learn, there's a few spots where learning is a bit tricky.

Hope that helps you some. As I said, I'm still learning so while I think this info is all correct, I'm making no promises.

On the Wiki front, I'd recommend Oberoten's FG Wiki as it is more comprehensive and up to date, but it seems to be temporarily down.

Hello, and welcome aboard!

As for the discounts, it's a tiered setup, and the discount doesn't improve past 4 lite licenses. So if you buy 6 lites they're still $14.97 each. And I don't think the discount applies to additional full versions, but I'm not 100% sure about that.

There's a user-created 3.5 ruleset that's way better than the bundled one. It's free, and available here: https://www.fouruglymonsters.com/community/

You have to join the D&D 3rd Edition Development group to download it.

As for the learning curve, I've not played 3.0 but I've come across 3.0 players who joined a 3.5 game, and they were tripped up by differences in the minutia from time to time. The basic mechanics (skill checks, etc.) are the same though. Wizards actually created a supplement to allow you to use your 3.0 rulebooks in 3.5. I found it here: https://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/downloads

People don't usually distribute their modules, whether out of humility or issues of copyright, but there's a few commercial modules for 3.5 available in the store. I haven't checked them out. There's a video available on the downloads page that's a huge help in making your own. Once you've made a few it's really quite easy.

One pitfall I should probably mention is that the first time the players sign on they will each roll the dice like, 10,000 times. :D

Hope that helps!
