Each participant in a session has a unique user name.
In the Fantasy Grounds launcher, click on "Host a Game as a Gamemaster".
If the "User Name" field is disabled, click on "Change".
Type in your user name.
Generating and using an alias
A host alias is used for connecting to a host running a session. It is useful if you don't know your public network address or if it changes often.
In the Fantasy Grounds launcher, click on "Host a Game as a Gamemaster".
Check the option for "use the alias"
If an alias does not appear in the text field below, click "Generate".
Give out the generated alias, appearing in the text box, to your players.
Using a password
Using a password requires connecting players to enter the specified password when connecting.
In the Fantasy Grounds launcher, click on "Host a Game as a Gamemaster".
Check the option for "Use password".
Enter in the password in the text field.
Continue selecting hosting options and start the game.
Network setup checklist
In Fantasy Grounds, the person taking the Gamemaster's role is hosting the session. The actions necessary to configure the network depend on the setup of the host's computer and network connection.
As all of the information transmitted to or from players goes through the host's computer, a broadband connection is highly recommended.
Give the players either the alias or the external IP address of your computer if they connect using the Internet. If some of the players are within the same local area network (LAN), give them the internal IP address that your computer is identified with within the LAN.
If you use a password to protect the session, tell it to your players.
If you have a firewall, configure it to have port 1802 (TCP/incoming) open, not stealthed and possibly forwarded to your computer (usually required if behind a hardware firewall or router). See the FAQ for further details on how to do this.
