    LFP - Homebrew world {D&D 5e}{Preferably Saturdays 10ish AM MST}

FG License: Standard (players will require a standard licence or Ultimate)
    Game System: d&d 5e

    Time Zone: MST = UTC - 7 https://time.is/MST
Day of week and time: Preferably Saturdays starting between 10am and 1pm MST.
Planned Duration & Frequency: planned for 4 hours, sometimes less, sometimes more if all players are comfortable continuing (and I have material prepared or feel good BSing it)
Term: Medium/long campaign. Expect a couple month, but will continue story or play a new campaign if the group is enjoying it.

    Text or Voice: Voice only
    Voice software used: Discord

Roleplay & Combat mix: 60 RP/40 combat but it is hard to say. Some sessions may not have any combat, others may be multi-combat. It really depends on the emerging narrative.
Number of Players in game & needed: Looking for 4 or 5 PCs
Character starting level & equipment: TBD, likely 1st or 2nd level start. Equipment is granted by class and background with some potential swaps (e.g., I would let a ranger start with a light crossbow instead of a long bow)
Character restrictions: Characters will be created (or at least conceptualized) in session zero. Players will be restricted to PHB + Xanathar's + SCAG.

About myself: I am a 28 year old PhD student studying sport psychology (makes me a professional sports nerd). I grew up on Games like Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights and reading tons of fantasy novels. I have played tabletop D&D for a few years and have ran two campaigns (in person) that lasted 4 and 6 months respectively. I would be new to DMing on FG, but I have also DM'd a a short 2 and a half month campaign on R20. As a DM (and player) I care a lot more about the motivations, goals, fears, taboos, etc of characters than the numbers on sheets. I try to balance the rules with some common sense type rulings (e.g., a fog cloud cast on a long bow user 300' from his/her target would make it so he/she shot with neither advantage or disadvantage because the long range disadvantage is wiped out by the unseen attacker advantage from being in the heavy obscurement. My ruling would have the archer attacking with disadvantage but people attacking the archer would also have disadvantage because nobody could see their target). Ultimately, my goal is for players in my games to feel like their characters are in a believable world and that NPCs react based on their knowledge of the party and the general attitude towards armed strangers.

    Campaign setting
Welcome to the Free States, a group of city-states and their territories who managed to maintain a degree of autonomy despite the rapid expansion of the Kingdom of Radania. In the Free States nobles are constantly making plays for power and influence, merchant cabals control and exploit trade regulations, and the common folk just try to live their lives and not get crushed by the machinations of the wealthy and powerful. Here a person willing to take risks can make great profit if they avoid they make the right friends and avoid the ire of others.

PCs would be starting in Jovanos, the largest of the Free States. PCs will have heard of a wealthy merchant seeking to hire several brave souls to escort a wagon to the village of Hearthedge to the Northeast.

If interested in playing in this, please reply to this thread. This is easier for me than private messages and each reply to the thread bumps this thread to the top of the list helping us find more players. Do note that I plan on talking to/'interviewing' each potential player before finalizing a 'roster'.

EDIT: I am wanting to run a game with a few house-rules:
    1) Resting and healing will be more gritty, but not 'gritty realism" from the DMG. Short rests will be 6 hours and long rests 2 days (3 if taken during uninterrupted slow travel). As an action, a use of a medkit (starts with 10) can be used on each PC ONCE between each rest (short or long) and heal for 1d6+4 AND allow character to use HD for additional healing. HD can be spent to heal on completion of a short rest as normal. Completion of a long rest heals to max HP and FULLY replenishes HD (RAW is 1/2 HD restored).
    2) Humans are either vanilla or Varients that HAVE TO TAKE either the Prodigy, Tough, Skilled, or Linguist feats.
    3) Not technically a house rule, but I do not intend to have multiclassing in the game. Want your fighter to be kinda cleric-like? Take magic initiate cleric if you want to be MORE cleric-y then be a paladin OR a cleric and take weapon master and/or armor proficiency and/or the combat maneuver one. It will be possible to learn some skills through training/studying and as a DM I tend to grant boons and custom magic items that let players do neat things (i.e., a magic studded leather armor in my games are more likely to be enchanted to allow the wearer to change the armor's appearance as an illusion once per day rather than be Studded Leather +1 that simply adds 1 to AC).

Hi there. I'm a complete noob at D&D, and for about a year ago I discovered I really enjoyed role-playing but I have not found much opportunity to play. I have had a little it of experience playing 1 session of CoS before my mother decided that D&D was not a good thing to spend time on. Now I have more autonomy since I'm in college so I really want to have a chance to play again.

I've been hunting around for a game to play in (been running a game for the past two years) and you're in the same time zone I'm in. I'll send a PM to see if I fit what you're looking for.

Hello Esyvir, and welcome to the amazingness that is D&D and roleplaying games (RPGs) in general! I'm glad your trying to get into the hobby more and I think a homebrewed setting is a great way to experience the game, as it fosters a personalized and dynamic collaborative-storytelling experience between the DM and the players. I believe these to be some of the best parts of "pen-and-paper" RPGs (as opposed to video game RPGs) because there are infinite possibilities and choices to be made by all people involved in the game, and those choices affect the game in an organic way, both in a mechanical sense and a narrative sense. Lol I'll end my speech now, but let me know if you have any questions about D&D, Fantasy Grounds, or RPGs in general and hopefully I can help!

On another note DealBreaker, this sounds like quite an interesting setting and I'd like to try it out, but I'm not quite ready to commit to a game right now unfortunately, taking care of one-year olds and stuff haha. I will keep checking back though in-case the time or day of the week changes, or I'm able to shift some stuff in my schedule to support a regular game. Best of luck to both of you though, and let me know if there is anything I could possibly help with in the interim!!

    Hello there DealBreaker,

I've been looking around for a new game for a while since my old campaign ended and this one sounds very interesting.

A little about me: I've been playing D&D for about 16 years on and off starting with 3rd edition. This will be my first time playing on Fantasy Grounds but I've played multiple campaigns on roll20 and dozens in person over the years my longest continuous group being about two years. I've always been more of a RP heavy player, I've played campaigns where the primary story was "go here, kill this, get loot," and find that pretty boring. I want to see the characters come to life and interact with each other like real people. I'm never against the DM making the campaign challenging or the enemies incredibly intelligent so if that's your plan I'm even more excited.

My usual play style: I'm more of a support player so I'll probably play an illusion wizard or bard. I prefer making the other party members better at their jobs rather than being exceptionally good myself. I generally end up as the party face, although I'm not against someone else or even better everyone being active in interacting with the NPCs, it makes it more fun and I feel it gets everyone more in character.

    A couple questions:
1: I know you mentioned PHB + Xanathar's + SCAG as being the only things allowed, but would things from Unearthed Arcana be considered if we ran them by you first? Such as the Unearthed Arcana feats.

2: You mentioned that the campaign is suppose to be a couple of months, what is the expected level maximum? I want to make sure I don't plan for something I'm not likely to get to.

3: Are there any particular races that are more/less common in your campaign? Such as Dragonborn being incredibly rare.

    4. What Pantheon are you planning on using?

    5. What type of stat array is being used for character creation?

I'll PM my discord to you, I'm usually online so just hit me up if you want to talk or go over anything.

    Thanks for the consideration!

    Hey DealBreaker,

I'd love to jump into a Saturday game. I'm new to FG but with a few years on both sides of the screen in 5e. I'd be looking to play a protection type fighter.

Love to voice, love running with story, love all of it. Let me know if you still have a spot - I'll decide which license to grab by then.

    Cheers.

    Hey DealBreaker,

I'm a new D&D player and I've been looking to join a campaign. I'd like to play an Oath of Redemption Paladin.
I'd love a chance to try roleplaying start building depth to my character. I do have some questions but I'll ask you them if you decide to pick me.

    Thanks.

I would be interested in joining. Im 28 and have about a year of experience in DnD but no experience using FG. However picking up new systems is typically pretty easy for me to do once I get time to mess around with them.

If you're still looking for players, my wife and I were hoping to get into a group. We both have a few sessions under our belts, but are relatively new to DnD. Both in EST. Let me know if you still have availability.
