50 or 100px is fine for FG.

Yep, 50 pixels is a good compromise between detail and keeping the map resolution low, and therefore FG memory use lower too. With 50 pixels per grid square the recommended size is 40x40 squares. 100 pixels per square will give you more detail, but you’re reducing the recommended image size to 20x20 squares.
