Noob question: Create char and use

Dear all,

I have not finished reading the complete manual, so sorry when it is getting answered somewhere by reading the complete manual.
But I dont want to have things unanswered in my mind when continuing reading :)

I created my 1st char by "manage characters", then creating it as described in the manual (really great to just drag and drop things from player handbook), then I exported the char to my pc.
Now I loaded the sample compain, and imported the char to the sample compain.
My questions:
- Would this be the proper way to create and use chars when starting to play a compaign ?
- When compaign is completed (and char hopefully still alive hehe), how would I then export this char to the next compaign, so to have all the new items found in the adventure and all the earned experince and so on are transfered to the next adventure ?
- When finishing a game session, do I have to save this chars somehow to have all the updated for the next game session ?

Maybe I am doing something completely wrong, dont want to learn wrong basics :)

For your firts question it depends on the type of campaign. If you are going to be playing in a long term campaign then usually the DM would have a first session where characters are created using any material that they allow for such a purpose. Once this character is completed then that#s it you do not have to worry about saving, importing or exporting all you need tyo do is rejoin the same campaign the next session and your character will be exactly as you left it.

If you are going to be playing in a series of one shots (such as with Adventure League) or are going to be using the character in another campaign then you would need to export it out of the one you just left. You can do this in manage characters by selecting the campaign by name when you load up. You will find you character is available there in the PC button. Once you have found it you can export it from there and it will then be available to import into any other campaign.

FG saves information every 5 minutes and when the session is closed so you don't need to worry about saving anything.

Hi I suggest trying fantasy grounds college on Discord to learn how to create characters, they have free character creation classes and I know if your doing 5e its important to create your characters in a certain order..

Assign ability scores, Background, Race and class. .The orders different than the players handbook..
